Blood Drive At Second Congregational

The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle Thursday, Sept. 19, between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.

Every day in Maine, 300 units of blood must be collected for its 37 hospitals and medical centers in order to meet the transfusion needs of area patients.

To help support these needs and to qualify as a donor, it is necessary to be at least 17 years old, and to weigh no less than 110 pounds. (Sixteen year olds may now donate with parental consent.)

There is no upper age limit, and certain medications may not necessarily disqualify a potential donor.

For further information, or to make an appointment, please call 1-800-Red Cross (1-800-733-2767.) Walk-ins are welcome, too.
