LA Climate Club Presents CONA Program
Bookmark and Share The Climate Action Club of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle will present a program for Citizens Offering New Alternatives (CONA) on Wed., Oct. 29 at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.

Founded last year and consisting of about 20 students, the Climate Club has accomplished much to improve the school campus environmentally. It has instituted more recycling throughout the school, reduced idling of school buses and reduced computer energy consumption with "local cooling." Off-campus, it has recently distributed canvas bags to merchants in town to reduce the use of plastic bags.

The Club has received national recognition for its work. It was one of five school groups out of 500 to have won a trip to the University of Florida this summer to an "environmental boot camp" to learn about sustainability. The Club will also be featured in an upcoming Sundance Channel "Big Ideas for a Small Planet" series.

Students will talk about their accomplishments and plans for the future at the CONA program, which will begin at 7 p.m. Access to the library is through the Elm St. entrance. CONA is a non-profit organization dedicated to social and environmental justice.
