Local students Chloe Maxmin and Alex Hadik have long been involved in the environmental movement. They have made a significant difference in their local community of Newcastle through their youth-led organization Climate Action Club, but are now ready to go global, via the web.
Maxmin and Hadik launched First Here, Then Everywhere (FHTE) as an online platform to unite young environmental activists around the world.
FHTE will feature outstanding examples of youth taking action to help the environment; and provide a social hub for these youth to connect, converse, collaborate, and ultimately expand their projects.
The venture will enable dialogue and coordination amongst youth environmental groups at the next level with a better web-interface and toolkits. First Here, Then Everywhere already has participants from eight countries and now they are looking to take their idea to the next level.
First Here, Then Everywhere is an expansion of the successful Climate Action Club, started at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, two years ago. Funding for First Here, Then Everywhere was made possible by a grant from Youth Venture.
Maxmin and Hadik formally presented First Here, Then Everywhere before a Selection Panel of community members and leaders, who approved the team's idea and awarded them a $1000 seed grant after deciding they had met the criteria for becoming a Youth Venture Team.
The grant money will be used for setup technology costs as well as all advertising and marketing efforts to expand the network to all interested individuals and groups. First Here, Then Everywhere hopes to be up and running on the web within the year.
A Venture Team must be a new club, service, or organization; provide a positive, lasting community benefit; be created, run, and managed by youth ages 12-20; have clear goals, a committed team, a realistic budget; and, have a non-controlling adult mentor. Each team receives up to $1000 in venture seed funding.
