Lincoln County Schools Graded A to F In State Ratings
By Dominik Lobkowicz

Lincoln County schools ran the gamut by bringing in grades from 'A' to 'F' in report cards on Maine's schools released by the Department of Education on May 1.

The report cards rank the schools on performance in school year 2011-2012.

For middle and elementary schools, the system takes into account overall student achievement in math and reading as 50 percent of the school's grade, growth of all students in math and reading as 25 percent of the grade, and growth of students who scored in the bottom 25 percent the previous year as the remaining 25 percent of the grade, according to the report cards.

High schools are rated with proficiency in math and reading as 40 percent, growth in those subjects as 40 percent, and four and five year graduation rate as the remaining 20 percent of the grade, according to the report cards.

According to the Department of Education Website, schools did not receive grades if: it does not go beyond grade three, because of the requirement of two years of testing data for the growth calculation; the school is new and does not have two years of testing data; or has less than 10 students in a class, due to federal privacy laws.
