Dresden Men Facing Federal Robbery Charge

Two Dresden men face up to 20 years in federal prison if they are convicted of criminal charges filed in the U.S. District Court in Portland June 17.

United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced Monday that Nicholas Alexander and Devin Alexander, both 23, of Dresden, have been charged with conspiring to rob a Walgreens pharmacy in Bath.

Nicholas Alexander was arrested on June 15; Devin Alexander was arrested on June 17.

The charge stems from a robbery that occurred June 14. According to the criminal complaint, both defendants took part in the robbery during which a note was handed to a pharmacist that read, "You have 20 seconds to give me all your Oxycodone 15s and 30s or I will blow your [expletive] brains out."

As a result of the note, the complaint alleges, Nicholas Alexander was given a bag containing 11 bottles of Oxycodone tablets.

If convicted, both men face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and restitution.

Both defendants made initial appearances in federal court June 17. Nicholas Alexander was ordered temporarily detained pending a detention hearing scheduled for June 20. Additional court appearances have not yet been scheduled for Devin Alexander.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bath Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Delahanty praised the cooperation among these law enforcement agencies. He further said that the FBI has agreed to take an expanded role to assist in the investigation of pharmacy robberies in Maine.

"This was an excellent example of local, state, county and federal law enforcement agencies working closely together," said Bath Police Chief Michael Field.
