6/28/2013 10:23:00 AM Weather Update: Flood Watch in Effect
By Dominik Lobkowicz
A flood watch is in effect for Lincoln County and parts of Maine and New Hampshire today with the threat of heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.
Warm and humid air riding up and over a strengthening low pressure system is expected to produce occasional heavy rainfall and scattered thunderstorms today, according to a flood watch notice posted on http://www.weather.gov.
Rainfall expectations are listed from three-quarters of an inch to two inches with locally higher amounts, leading to possibly sharp rises in rivers and streams to "near bankfull," according to the notice.
The thunderstorms will produce heavier rainfall amounts that could bring "very localized" flash flooding, and road and urban flooding is also possible.
The notice encourages the public to monitor weather forecasts and be alert for flood warnings, and those in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take quick action if flooding develops.
