Lincoln County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:

On July 3, Deputy Chad Gilbert took a report of a theft of a 6 gallon gasoline tank (value: approximately $150) from a dinghy boat in the Bristol area. The theft happened sometime within the last two weeks prior to the report date. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On July 4, Deputy Brian Collamore was dispatch to a reported theft of gasoline from a boat tied up to a private dock in the Boothbay area. The complainant stated that sometime between the previous night and next morning on this date, someone(s) stole approximately $140 worth of gasoline from this boat. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On July 6, Deputy Brian Collamore was dispatch to a report of criminal mischief to the lawn of the historical building in Jefferson. The complainant stated that sometime within the last two days, someone(s) drove on the lawn area and spun up the grass. (damage: approximately $500) Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On July 8, Deputy Justin Drake took a report of a theft of a red, 5 gallon gas tank (value: $50) from a boat in the South Bristol area. Further investigation if leads develop.

On July 9, Det. Robert McFetridge took a report of a theft of an 18-inch bronze ship propeller (value: approximately $1000) from a residence in the Bristol area. This case is under investigation.

Recent arrests
July 4, Andrew J. Willis, 21, of St. George was arrested for violating condition of release and operating after license suspension, on Rt. 1, Edgecomb, by Sgt. Brendan Kane.

July 5, Christian Matthews, 21, of Dresden was arrested for operating after habitual offender revocation - prior and attaching false plates, on River Road, Dresden, by Sgt. Brendan Kane.

July 5, Samantha A. Edson, 26, of Westport Island was arrested for violating condition of release, at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Wiscasset, by Det. Terry Michaud.

July 6, Nicholas Robbins, 21, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic violence assault, on North Mountain Road, Jefferson, by Lt. Rand Maker, who was assisted by Reserve Deputy Jennifer Sherman.

July 8, Joshua W. Ellis, 28, of Waldoboro was arrested on two revocation of probation warrants out of Rockland Superior Court, at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Transport Sgt. Aaron Mortensen.

July 1, Jordan Smerdon, 16, of Bristol, speeding, 75 mph in a posted 50 mph speed zone, Rt. 130, Bristol, Sgt. Brendan Kane.

July 3, Abigail McLellan, 17, of Boothbay, speeding, 60 mph in a posted 40 mph speed zone, Barters Island Rd., Boothbay, Sgt. Jason Nein.

July 5, Marc Patrick, 35, of Gardiner, improper/unsafe passing, Rt. 1, Newcastle, Dep. Brian Collamore.

July 5, Wanda Eynon, 63, of Ashland, Mass., speeding, 55 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone, Rt. 27, Dresden, Dep. Todd Chilton.

Recent accidents
On July 2, an accident occurred on Rt. 1 in Newcastle involving Elizabeth T. Matta, 35, of Bath and Sarah F. Melcher, 53, of Torrington, Conn. Matta was operating her 1999 Saturn SL northbound and Melcher was operating her 2013 Honda CRV southbound. As both vehicles approached the intersection of the Sheepscot Road and US Rt. 1 a large dump truck was stopped in the northbound lane of Rt. 1 preparing to make a left turn onto Sheepscot Road. Melcher observed the truck making the left turn and started making a left turn into the Midnight Oil company parking lot. Ms. Matta observed the truck stopped and proceeded to drive past the truck on the right hand side. Both vehicles were obstructed by the truck and were unable to see each other's vehicle until they got around the truck. Both operators attempted to avoid a collision by accelerating and turning away from the other vehicle, however, they collided in the northbound lane near the white fog line. Det. Robert McFetridge was the investigating officer.

On July 2, an accident occurred on Rt. 1 in Newcastle involving Laura K. Wright, 42, of Boothbay and Mark G. Little, 60, of Damariscotta. Little was operating his 2002 Chevrolet S10 northbound on Rt. 1 and making a left turn onto Station Road. Another vehicle was traveling southbound and making a left turn from Rt. 1 onto the Dodge Road. While these vehicles were making their turns, Wright passed the vehicle turning onto the Dodge Road on the right side of it and struck the side of Little's vehicle, which was pulling onto Station Road. Deputy Matthew Day was the investigating officer.

On July 4, an accident occurred on Bristol Road in Bristol involving Katrina V. N. Belle, 20, of Walpole and John Thorn, 59, of Xenia, Ohio. Thorn was operating his 2009 Honda southbound and Belle was following behind Thorn in her 1994 Volvo 940. Thorn slowed for traffic in front of him and Belle struck the rear of Thorn's vehicle. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On July 4, an accident occurred on Alna Road in Alna involving Katie L. Hagen, 23, of Whitefield. Hagen was operating her 2002 Pontiac eastbound on Rabbit Path to Rt. 218 when she failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled across Rt. 218 and came to rest in the ditch. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On July 5, an accident occurred on Head Tide Road in Alna involving Majory Whitehurst, 81, of Alna. Whitehurst had pulled her 2000 Dodge over by her residence to allow another vehicle to pass and when she backed up to turn into her driveway, she backed up too far and slid down a steep embankment. Sgt. Alan Shea was the investigating officer.

On July 6, an accident occurred on Rt. 129 in South Bristol involving Elijah W. McNeill, 18, of Woolwich. McNeill was operating his 2000 Isuzu Rodeo southbound when he stated he fell asleep. As a result, his vehicle drifted to the right onto the shoulder and struck a telephone pole, causing significant front end damage. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.

On July 7, an accident occurred on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay involving Brandon W. Melanson, 27, of Hope and Charles S. Hodgdon, III, 34, of Boothbay. Melanson was operating a 2006 Ford ambulance northbound on Wiscasset Road, with his lights and siren on while responding to a medical call. Hodgdon was also traveling northbound in his 2011 Nissan Rogue and was following the ambulance. Melanson slowed and stopped in the roadway and began backing his vehicle up, intending to back into a residential driveway. Hodgdon had stopped behind the ambulance and Melanson backed into Hodgdon's vehicle. Reserve Deputy Mark Walsh was the investigating officer.
