The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a fatal two-car collision in Nobleboro Friday morning as 83-year-old Katharine Brown, of Nobleboro.
According to a press release from the LCSO, the crash occurred around 10:54 a.m. on U.S. Route 1, south of the Nobleboro boat launch, and about one mile north of the intersection of Route 1 and Back Meadow Road.
According to the LCSO, an initial investigation has determined that Brown was operating a 2000 Honda Civic south on Route 1 when she crossed the center line, entered the northbound lane and struck a 2007 GMC Pickup driven by 51-year-old Daryl Rhode of Rogers City, Michigan. Rhode's vehicle was traveling north towing a large, fifth wheel camper.
Brown was found inside her vehicle by first responders and it appears she died instantly, according to the LCSO. Brown was the lone occupant of her vehicle. Occupants in the Rhode vehicle were not injured.
Blood samples will be obtained from Brown by the Medical Examiners Office but deputies do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in this crash, according to the LCSO.
A section of Route 1 was closed for about five hours while the crash scene was being investigated. Traffic was rerouted through Center Street in Nobleboro during this time. Route 1 is now clear and reopened.
Deputies were assisted in this investigation by the Maine State Police, Maine Warden's Service, Nobleboro Fire Department, Lincoln County Communications Center, Damariscotta Police Department, and the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service.
