Sierra Club Free Movie 'Betting The Farm'

The movie series sponsored by the Sierra Club continues this month with "Betting The Farm" showing free of charge on Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

Soup, chowder, quiche, desserts and beverages will be available to purchase from 6 to 7 p.m. Our regular menu will not be available that night.

"Betting The Farm" tells of a group of Maine dairy farmers, dropped by their national milk company, who are suddenly confronted with the real possibility of losing their farms.

Banding together, the dairymen launch their own milk company. Farmers Vaughn Chase, Richard Lary, and Aaron Bell, along with their families, struggle to make ends meet as they get the company off the ground.

The company that they founded is MOO Milk, or Maine's Own Organic Milk. Grace Goldberg, the owner of Savory Maine is particularly interested in this film because Savory Maine uses large quantities of MOO Milk's milk and cream.

The movie series with the Sierra Club will continue during the winter and spring on the third Monday of the month.

The Sierra Club was founded in 1892. The mission of the Maine Chapter is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the Earth; to practice and promote responsible ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

The movie series with the Sierra Club will continue during the winter and spring on the third Monday of the month.

Monday is also the day of the indoor winter market at Savory Maine from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Consider coming to the market and then stay for a light supper and the movie. For more information, call 563-2111, visit the Savory Maine Facebook page or
