LCN Staff

A Wiscasset man is in custody at the Kennebec County Jail after he was questioned following a shooting in South Gardiner Dec. 7.

According to a press release issued by Gardiner Police Department, Sean Kingston, 38, of Wiscasset was arrested and charged with with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person after voluntarily turning himself into Detective Michael Durham of the Gardiner Police Department, Dec. 9.

Law enforcement had been looking for Kingston since Gardiner Police responded to a reported shooting at 30 Costello Rd. in South Gardiner around 6:07 p.m. Dec. 7.

In the bedroom at that location, police discovered a 34-year-old female who had sustained a gunshot wound to her torso. The victim was conscious and able to speak with officers at the scene.

It is believed she will make a complete recovery, according to the Gardiner police press release.

She was subsequently removed from the location by Gardiner Ambulance and transported the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight helicopter where she remains hospitalized.

Kingston, whom police reported was at the residence when officers arrived, left the residence shortly thereafter and was wanted for questioning as a possible witness, according to the press release.

According to the release, police made several unsuccessful attempts to locate Kingston before he turned himself in Dec. 9.

Police believe Kingston is the boyfriend of the victim and divides his time between the Costello Road residence and a residence in Wiscasset, according to the release.

The Gardiner Police Department was assisted at the scene by several detectives from the Maine State Police's Major Crimes Unit.

According to the press release, police allege a handgun was used in the shooting.
