Lincoln County Sheriff's Report

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:

On Aug. 13, Deputy Chad Gilbert responded to a report of the theft of commercial batteries (value: $400) from a skidder in the Dresden area. Sometime within the last three months, someone(s) stole two large commercial NAPA batteries, each weighing approximately 50 lbs. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On Aug. 13, Deputy Kenneth Hatch took a report of a theft of a Canon 5D Mark II camera with 20-40 lens (valued at approximately $4,800) from a boat at Christmas Cove Marina in South Bristol sometime on Aug. 8. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On Aug. 18, Major Ken Mason took a report of a theft of a 6 gallon gas tank (filled) worth approximately $103 from a boat at Broad Cove Marine Services in Bremen. The complainant stated that sometime during the overnight hours Aug. 13-14, someone(s) stole numerous gas tanks. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

On Aug. 18, Deputy Brian Collamore took a report of a missing iPad mini (value: $600) from the gazebo at the Boothbay Center, where the complainant stated she believes she left it at around 2 p.m., Aug. 17.

On Aug. 18, Deputy Brian Collamore was dispatched to a report of a theft of a 12 volt Hamilton marine battery (value: $100) from a boat trailer at the boat landing on Westport Island. The complainant stated that it was possibly taken sometime the previous night; however, it may have been taken earlier than that. Further investigation to follow as any new leads come forth.

On Aug. 18, Major Ken Mason took a report of a theft/burglary and criminal mischief in the Bristol Mills area. The complainant stated that sometime between Aug. 6 and Aug. 13, someone(s) broke into his shed and stole a 15' Chestnut Company wood and canvas canoe (value: $1,500), two canoe paddles (value: $90), and a two-wheel canoe caddie (value $50), and damaged his shed door. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.

Recent summons
Aug. 16, Brent A. Fogg, 42, of Bristol, was issued a summons for operating vehicle with expired license (over 90 days), on Bristol Road, Bristol, by Deputy Kenneth Hatch.

Recent arrests
Aug. 12, a 16-year-old male juvenile from Jefferson was arrested for criminal trespass; terrorizing and violating condition of release by Deputy Jared Mitkus, who transported the juvenile to the Long Creek Juvenile facility. Deputy Mitkus was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Brendan Kane.

Aug. 12, Nicholas Hodgdon, 20, of Boothbay, was arrested for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and burglary, on Butler Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Aaron Beck, who was assisted by Deputy Jared Mitkus and Det. Terry Michaud.

Aug. 12, Benjamin Clifford, 20, of Edgecomb, was arrested for burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, on Butler Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Aaron Beck, who was assisted by Deputy Jared Mitkus and Det. Terry Michaud.

Aug. 14, Jon E. Madore, 58, of Dresden, was arrested for violating condition of release, on Middle Road, Dresden, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.

Aug. 15, Alan F. Hargreaves, 46, of Newcastle, was arrested for operating under the influence and violating condition of release, on Rt. 1, Newcastle, by Det. Scott Hayden.

Aug. 17, Tatyana Whittaker, 77, of Bristol, was arrested for operating under the influence, on Salt Pond Point, Bristol, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.

Recent accidents
On Aug. 12, an accident occurred on Gardiner Road in Whitefield involving Alexandria V. Tobey, 23, of Whitefield. Tobey was operating her 1999 Subaru Legacy westbound when she stated she hit a rock in the roadway and swerved, then over corrected and went off the roadway on the right side, striking a large tree. Deputy Kenneth Hatch was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 12, an accident occurred on Clarks Cove Road in South Bristol involving Ashley Rossin, 19, of South Bristol. Rossin's 2004 Acura MDX was parked legally when an unknown vehicle started backing out of a parking space and struck the front driver's side of her vehicle. The unknown vehicle then left the scene. Deputy Kenneth Hatch was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 12, an accident occurred on Rt. 1 in Edgecomb involving Harry N. Starbranch, 81, of Augusta and Wayne G. Staples, 51, of Brunswick. Starbranch was heading southbound in his 1996 Subaru Legacy when he stopped in heavy traffic. Staples was operating his 2003 Suzuki VL1500 motorcycle northbound on Rt. 1 at the intersection of Atlantic Highway. Starbranch at this point attempted to turn left onto Atlantic Highway. As he proceeded with the turn, Starbranch did not see Staples' vehicle and as a result, turned in front of him, causing Staples to lay his motorcycle on its side and striking Starbranch's vehicle in the northbound travel lane. Sgt. Daniel Sceviour was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 12, an accident occurred on Main Road on Westport Island involving Nathaniel Mills, 16, of Wiscasset. Mills was operating his 2000 Saab 9-3 northbound when he failed to negotiate a corner and as a result, drove off the roadway and into an embankment. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 12, an accident occurred on Main Street in Damariscotta involving Martha Gottlieb, 74, of Whitefield and Philip A. Schuster, 74, of Shelburne Falls, Mass. Gottlieb was backing up her 2009 Subaru Forester in the parking lot in the field at the DRA Round Top Farm, and failed to see Schuster's parked 2003 Volkswagen Passat and backed into the front end. Deputy Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 13, an accident occurred on Wiscasset Road in Boothbay involving Chester E. Chubbuck, 77, of Edgecomb. Chubbuck was operating his 2013 Kia Rio southbound when a deer ran onto the road and was struck. Reserve Deputy Scott Mercier was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 13, an accident occurred on Rt. 1 in Edgecomb involving Catherine B. Eliot, 59, of South Portland and Jarrod W. Norcott, 25, of Southport Island. Norcott's 2009 Toyota Highlander was stopped in traffic on Rt. 1 in Edgecomb, heading southbound. Eliot was slowing her 2010 Toyota Prius in traffic behind Norcott's vehicle, when she advised she took her eyes off the road. When she looked up it was too late and she struck Norcott's vehicle in the rear. Reserve Deputy Scott Mercier was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 13, an accident occurred on Bunker Hill Road in Jefferson involving Hillary C. Lackman, 23, of Willington, Conn. and Benjamin Hidu, 20, of Newcastle. Lackman was operating her 2005 Honda Civic eastbound and Hidu was operating his 1993 Honda Civic westbound when Hidu lost control of his vehicle around a corner. As a result, Hidu rotated and skidded into Lackman's travel lane and struck her vehicle. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 14, an accident occurred on Ocean Point Road in Boothbay involving Brian E. Etheridge, 53, of Bristol. Etheridge's 2005 International Harvester/Navistar truck was parked on the side of the roadway when Etheridge stated he was not sure what happened as he was out of the vehicle and saw it begin to roll down the roadway and come to rest against a CMP utility pole. Deputy Kenneth Hatch was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 14, a hit and run accident occurred on Shore Road in Boothbay involving a parked 2002 Toyota Tundra, owned by Randy J. Klemanski, 40, of Lewiston, at the Ocean Point Inn. An unknown vehicle hit the rear of Mr. Klemanski's vehicle and left the scene. Deputy Ryan Chubbuck was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 14, an accident occurred on Provost Road in Jefferson involving Lisa A. Peabody, 47, of Jefferson. Peabody was operating her 2004 Nissan Sentra eastbound when a deer ran in front of her vehicle and was struck. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On Aug. 18, an accident occurred on Bristol Road in Bristol involving Sarah J. Woolf-Wade, 78, of New Harbor. Woolf-Wade was operating her 2008 Subaru Outback southbound when she stated she fell asleep. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over, coming to rest on the passenger side. Sgt. Matthew Day was the investigating officer.
