After celebrating its first year of operation on Dec. 15, the Davis Island Grill in Edgecomb is adding pub games and new menu options to kick off its second year.

Mark McGuy, who co-owns the restaurant with John Smigielski, said that after a year of "dialing things in," they feel that they've gained a good local following, but are planning some additions and changes.

The changes are aimed at appealing to a broader demographic of families, the blue-collar crowd, and young people, McGuy said.

One of the major changes is an anticipated addition of a brand-name pizza label to the restaurant in January for both eat-in and take-out, Smigielski said. That deal hasn't been finalized, but they're expecting to sew up the agreement later this month, he said.

Smigielski and McGuy are trying to add more value to the menu by offering a wider variety of items and prices, they said.

In addition to the new pizza options they hope to offer, the restaurant will soon have a soup and salad bar, and will have a "pub menu" from 8 to 10 p.m. with $5-9 items, such as hamburgers, sandwiches, wings, and nachos, McGuy said.

In an effort to give the restaurant more of a "pub kind of feel," as Smigielski put it, they'll be adding a full-size regulation pool table, dart boards, a jukebox and more televisions to the restaurant.

Having more things to do will make the restaurant a place to hang out instead of coming by just for a meal, McGuy said.
