Lincoln County residents who traveled to work today will face the heaviest snowfall and highest winds of today's storm during the evening commute, according to forecasters.

Local broadcast forecasters are calling for the possibility of blizzard conditions this evening as the low front associated with this storm makes its closest pass to Lincoln County just offshore and southeast of the area. Winds should change from east-northeast to northeasterly and increase in velocity, gusting to 45 mph - with those winds lifting the light, fluffy snowfall already on the ground and combining with forecast snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour to greatly reduce visibility.

The weather website intellicast.com has forecast the timing for the possibility of blizzard conditions to be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Local broadcast forecasters are calling for that timing to be a bit later.

So far, the storm has caused area schools and town offices to close or close early, as well as some businesses. There have also been some traffic collisions, including a fuel truck slide off in Dresden that is ongoing at the time of this posting.

No power outages have been reported in Lincoln County at the time of this posting, although neighboring Kennebec County has 136 households without power.

A Winter Storm Warning issued by the NWS remains in effect until midnight Tuesday.

The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
