NWS: Snowy (or Icy) Weather Returns This Week
By Greg Latimer

The National Weather Service is advising Lincoln County residents of a return to snow and/or mixed precipitation, starting with a small, fast moving winter storm during the overnight hours on Monday followed by a much larger system chugging through Wednesday into Thursday.

The Monday night storm should be a minor nuisance, leaving 1 to 2 inches of snowfall accumulation during the late night hours of Monday into the early morning hours of Tuesday with precipitation forecast to end by daylight on Tuesday. There are no warnings, watches or advisories issued by the NWS in regard to this storm, and temps should stay low enough to keep precipitation in the form of snowfall.

The Wednesday storm should be more substantial, arriving during the overnight hours of Wednesday and continuing into Thursday. However, many of the details regarding the track of this storm are still in limbo, according to forecasters.

At the time of this posting the NWS is calling for at least 6 inches of accumulated snowfall from the Wednesday event, but is also advising that mixed precipitation may be in the forecast.

"The exact track of low pressure will ultimately determine how much snow we get or how far north any mixed precipitation will advance. These details will be worked out in the next 48 hours as we receive more data," the NWS advised.

Nonetheless, "Confidence is high enough in receiving at least 6 inches of snow to warrant a Winter Storm Watch," according to the NWS. The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning.

The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
