The Damariscotta Police Department is asking the public to report any recent thefts of scrap metal, chainsaws or power tools.

The request follows the April 16 arrest of a Nobleboro man for allegedly possessing burglar's tools at a camp in Damariscotta. Authorities seized copper and plumbing materials during the arrest.

Nathan T. Brewer, 25, faces charges of possession of burglar's tools, violation of condition of release and failure to provide name, all Class E misdemeanors. He was also issued a summons for the civil offense of operating after suspension.

Maine Game Warden Joey Lefebvre stopped Brewer at a camp at the end of Shamrock Lane at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 16. Damariscotta Patrol Officer Jason Warlick also responded.

The officers searched the car and found the burglar's tools, copper and plumbing materials, Warlick said.

Brewer was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and released that evening on $1,000 unsecured bail.

A Class E misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Brewer has a history of criminal activity in the area, including 2011 convictions for forgery, theft and trafficking in prison contraband and a 2012 conviction for criminal mischief.

The Damariscotta Police Department continues to investigate the matter.

The stop came after a report of suspicious activity regarding an individual asking about scrap materials at a Damariscotta business.

The Damariscotta Police Department asks anyone with information about thefts in the area to call 563-1909 and ask for Patrol Officer Jason Warlick.
