The Wiscasset Planning Board has approved plans for the Wiscasset NAPA auto parts store to build a new building adjacent to the McDonald's and Shell station on Route 1 in Wiscasset, pending obtaining a permit before development begins.

According to NAPA owner Vern Brewer, construction should begin in a couple of weeks, with the goal of the building being ready to move into by Oct. 1.

Brewer and his partner Jack Harworth have owned the Wiscasset NAPA for the past year and a half. They have owned the Bath NAPA for eight years. Brewer said the reason for the move is because of growth.

"NAPA is a leading auto parts business. To keep up with growth, we decided on a new store," Brewer said. "The new store will be three times the size of the store we are now in."

The new NAPA building will be on 1.25 acres of land owned by Priority Real Estate Group LLC, that was purchased from the First Federal Savings Bank. The building will be 6,000 square feet.

The store will share access with the McDonald's entrance with parking in the front, side, and back of the new store. The landscaping will be similar to that already existing on the development site, according to the plans presented to the planning board.

NAPA stores are locally owned and operated, and are not franchised. Brewer, of Wiscasset, and Harworth, of Edgecomb, own the Wiscasset and Bath NAPA stores.
