Nothing Short of A Miracle

To the Editor:

After attending a very informative town manager search meeting I realize Wiscasset is looking for nothing short of a miracle in our next town manager.

We've been through four or five town managers in 10 years. The state average term of employment is apparently six years, not two. We want them to live locally, in a town claimed to be over-assessed, but is there incentive there?

We want Wiscasset fixed. We want strong budget skills because we are concerned with spending money. Of course, being frugal is important, but an attitude of lack that pervades isn't doing Wiscasset any good.

What are we offering?

Doesn't long range planning require us, the townspeople, to keep a focused weather eye? I have served for several years on the waterfront committee; just my small contribution has required hours of footwork, phone calls, frustration and dedication. Getting things done without money requires teamwork. We are the team. Step up, enroll in our town, even from the sidelines. Cheerleaders do their part, too.

It's clear we require guidance, as evidenced by recent upgrades to our waterfront. So let's keep the creative momentum rolling; embrace it because "we may be small but we are mighty!" (motto from Wiscasset High School).

I am in hopes of securing a visionary town manager with an eye for exploring creative ways to succeed, marrying the successes of the past with the best plans and hope for the future; continued mending of fences, etc. The same s___ different day stuff is worn out.

Didn't we learn last year that ballot voting on the budget is financial terrorism, and devastating? We need our open town meetings. We deserve to have issues explained, and to look our neighbors in the eye, because in the end, we all want the same things.
