Kudos to Stepping Stone Housing

To the Editor:

Kudos to Stepping Stone Housing Inc., for their plans to build temporary housing for Lincoln County's homeless in Damariscotta.

Although I fear it will bring out the NIMBYS in droves, as has been the custom when anything is proposed in Damariscotta and other towns. Be it a methadone clinic in Warren, Waldoboro, or Rockland, low cost housing anywhere in the state; even the boat launching ramp in Mere's Point.

The fine, upstanding concerned people of Camden are currently fighting like the devil to stop a clinic for addicts from happening there.

We constantly hear the do-gooders screaming we need to help the homeless and drug addicts, just as long as it is in somebody else's backyard.

Guess we will have to do what the Chinese did to stamp out opium use. If caught, you were executed almost on the spot. Don't put them in jail. Help them to recover, build a place in the North Woods for them, out of sight.

The really sad thing about it is, the first thing out of NIMBY's mouth is lower property values and second is, we don't want those kind of people in our town.

Well, folks, drug use in Lincoln County is growing steadily. Many of you will deny it, but it is here and they are your friends and family.

Good luck to Bill Howlett and Carolyn Neighoff of Stepping Stone Housing Inc., and thank you for your concern.
