8/14/2013 2:06:00 PM Todd Souza New WHS Soccer Coach
Todd Souza is taking over the Wiscasset High School boys soccer program this fall. Souza coached boys soccer at Wiscasset Middle School for four years, and has coached varsity baseball at WHS for 11 years.
He replaces Wayne Benn, who headed up the boys soccer program for the past four years. The Wolverines won the league title under Benn in 2010.
"We had a good summer session with the kids," Souza said. Wiscasset's numbers were good in the summer session as well with 22 playing. Souza expects to have nine to 10 freshmen on the team this fall. He inherits a strong crop of sophomores who saw a lot of playing time last fall, including his son JD.
Souza played college ball at Norwich University. Before moving to the Wiscasset area 11 years ago, he coached club and rec ball in New Hampshire and coached at Keene High School.
"I'm excited, and looking forward to next week," Souza said of starting the 2013 season on Monday.
Wiscasset has several scrimmages lined up. They will play in a tournament at Gray NG, and scrimmage Freeport, Belfast, Medomak and Lincoln Academy.
