Medomak Valley boys soccer team, under coach Brian Campbell, learned Nov. 5 they are the 2013 recipients of the Eastern Maine Class B Good Sportsmanship award. The team received the award at Hampden Academy Nov. 9, at the State Class B championships.

"I could not be more proud of the way our athletes represented Medomak Valley this year in the boys soccer program," Campbell said. "Both on and off the field, they represented their community, their school, and each other with pride and respect.

"As a team we were able to maintain a competitive level of play in each contest while remaining focused and poised. Off the field, our athletes volunteered their Saturday mornings to be involved with the area youth soccer programs to help with the continued development for the future of the athletic program.

Our players learned the importance of being an athlete along with what it means to be a role model."

"We have set high expectations for our players in the Medomak Valley soccer program. To earn the Eastern B sportsmanship award is an honor and is a direct result of the efforts that all of our student athletes have put in to this season," Campbell said.

"Winning this award is the ultimate sign of respect from your opponents; that many of them think you compete the right way," said MVHS Athletic Director Matt Lash. "I could not be more proud of these student-athletes.

"This young group battled all year. They made huge gains and I look for them to continue to improve. Even when they played very good soccer against strong teams and came up short, they maintained their focus and went back to work.

"These kids enjoy playing with each other. They are close. Most often when you blend talent and chemistry, good things happen. I think that is why you will see them be successful in other sports as well in the future."
