CMCC Wins Double Championships

Central Maine Community College mens and womens basketball teams won the Yankee Small College Conference championships Feb. 23 at Southern Maine Community College in Portland.

Two Lincoln Academy graduates play on the teams, including Jalen Lincoln for the men, and Laura Soohey for the women.

CMCC men beat Vermont Tech 93-77 in the quarterfinals on Friday. Lincoln scored 11 points (9R,3S). On Saturday, CMCC beat U-Maine, Machais 102-95, to advance to the finals. Lincoln netted 18 (4R,3A,2S). CMCC crushed St. Joseph's College 90-69 to win the YSCC championship. Lincoln scored 11 (9R,3S).

CMCC women defeated Unity College 87-53 in Thursday's quarterfinals. Soohey scored 8 points (13R,5s). In the semifinals, CMCC beat Vermont Tech 107-60. Soohey netted 15 points (10R,3A,4S,1B). CMCC defeated UMaine Augusta 100-48 for their second straight championship win. Soohey scored 12 (14R,2S,1B).
