Medomak Softball Wins First Two Games of Season

Medomak Valley softball picked up their first win of the season at Belfast on Friday, 3-1. The game featured a pitcher's duel between Hanna Marks (6K,4H,1HP,0B) and Lion Ashley Littlefield (13K,m2B,5H,1HP).

After three scoreless innings, Medomak took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Marks hit a lead off single, stole second, and with two outs, scored on Miranda Belcher single.

Belfast knotted the score in the bottom of the sixth. Breann Cummings reached on an error and scored on a pair of ground outs.

Medomak scored two runs in the top of the seventh to win. Miranda Belcher scored on an infield error, Megan Sykes was hit by a pitch and Hope Lash drew a walk to load up the bases for McKenzie Wing. With two strikes, Wing blasted a two run single up the middle for the game winners.

"In the bottom of the seventh, Belfast would not go down quietly," coach Richard Vannah said. With the bases loaded and one out, Marks "took the game in her own hands and struck out the number two and three hitters to ice the win," Vannah said.

Hitting for Medomak were Belcher with two singles, and Sophie Cohen, Wing, and Marks one each. Hitting a single each for Belfast were Mariah Sturgis, Littlefield, Anna Simmons, and Paige Pray-Smith.

Gardiner 15 - Medomak 0

Lauren Guptill collected the only Panther hit off Gardiner hurler Kristi Smith (10K,1H,3B) in the Tigers' 15-0 five inning mercy ruling win April 30 in Waldoboro.

Hannah Marks took the loss (13H,3B,2K).

Hitting for Gardiner were Lily Chepke with two doubles and a single, Smith and Ellie Luken a double and single each, Bri Brochu two singles, and Brittany Rollins and Julia Nedau a single each.

Medomak 15 - Mt. View 7

Medomak Valley picked up their second win of the season on Monday, 15-7 over Mt. View. "The girls hit the ball," coach Richard Vannah said.

Hannah Marks collected the win (13K,3B,8H), and Dina Bilodeau took the loss (6K,8B,15H).

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. They jumped on the ball early, scoring four runs in the first inning with a two out rally. Marks walked, stole second, and scored on a Lauren Guptill double. Miranda Belcher reached on an error. Sophie Cohen drove home Guptill on a fielder's choice bunt, and Megan Sykes singled to set up a two run double to Casey Wagner.

They added two runs in the second. Marks walked, stole second and scored on a Guptill single. Guptill came home when Belcher reached on an error.

Mt. View scored two in the top of the third and five in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. "That was a scary moment," Medomak coach Richard Vannah said.

Krista Porter hit a two run double scoring Lindsay Morang and Kercie Boulay in the fourth. In the fifth, Boulay hit a bases loaded single scoring two runs. Taylor Shunk hit an RBI single and Porter a two run single.

Medomak re-took the lead with four runs in the home half of the fourth. Hope Lash walked and stole second, Stephanie Hill singled, Marks hit an RBI double, Guptill walked, and Cohen hit a two run single. The Panthers added two runs in the fifth on a walk to McKenzie Wing, single to Lash, and two run double to Marks. They added three in the sixth. Cohen walked, Lash singled and both scored on a Hill single. Marks followed with an RBI single.

Hitting for Medomak were Marks with two doubles and a single (4RBI), Guptill a double and 2 singles (2RBI), Lash, Hill (2RBI), and Cohen (3RBI) two singles each, Casey Wagner (2RBI), and Sykes a double each. Hitting for Mt. View were Porter with a double and single, B. Boulay 2 singles, and K. Boulay, Shunk, Hallie Richards, and Brittany Dugall a single each.

Nokomis 11 - Medomak 0

Becky Orcutt pitched a two hit shutout to lead Nokomis to a 11-0 win over Medomak softball Tuesday night. Hannah Marks took the loss (12H,9K,3B).

Marks hit a double and Miranda Belcher a single for the Panthers.

Hitting for Nokomis were Orcutt with a homerun and two doubles (2RBI), Courtney Carlson three singles, Drew Graves a double and single (5RBI), Libby Dunivan two singles, and Sierra Fortin and Sarah Packard a single each.
