Jefferson Wins Dirigo Little League Baseball Championship

After more than a month delay due to thunderstorms and the State Little League tournament, Jefferson and Vassalboro finally got to face off in Vassalboro Monday night for the deciding game of the Dirigo Little League baseball championship.

The best of three tournament started in early July, and saw Jefferson win game one 3-2, and Vassalboro win game two 2-1. The championship game was postponed due to thunderstorms two nights in a row, forcing a postponement until Aug. 11.

In the third and deciding game ,Jefferson got their bats going to beat Vassalboro 10-2 to win the 2014 league title.

Joel Pitcher started and went one inning (1R,1K,2H,0B), and Ryan Creamer closed out the final five innings striking out 10 (1R,5H,2B) in the win for Jefferson. Creamer retired the final seven batters in a row.

Jefferson caught three straight fly balls in the fifth, including a running catch by Gavin Pinkham in deep right field to rob Dom Denico. Creamer struck out the side in the sixth.

Four pitchers took the mound for Vassalboro: Nick Howard (1 2/3I,5R,3K,2B,2H), Dom Denico (2I,3R,4K,2B,2H), Kai Rabideau (2I,2R,2K,0B,2H), and Caden Turcotte (1/3I,0R,0K,2B,1H).

Vassalboro took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kai Rabideau hit a lead off double and scored when Nick Howard reached on an outfield error.

Jefferson scored five runs in the top of the second to take the lead for good. Lucas Grotton reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Gavin Pinkham single. John Campbell walked, Damien Doe hit an RBI single, and Pitcher walked to load the bases for a three run error to Ryan Creamer, whose fly ball to center field dropped when two outfielders collided.

Jefferson added two runs in the third. Logan Wood singled and Justice Pierpont and Pinkham walked to load up the bases for an RBI fielder's choice to Campbell and RBI single to Doe.

Vassalboro scored one in the third when K. Rabideau walked and scored on a Howard single.

Jefferson scored a run in the fourth when Creamer reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. They added a run in the sixth when Cole Chapman reached on an error and scored on a Cody Wood single. Creamer singled in the sixth and scored on a Dylan Grotton ground out.

Hitting for Jefferson were Pinkham and Doe with two singles each, and Creamer, L. Wood and C. Wood a single each. Hitting for Vassalboro were Rabideau a double and single, Richards two singles, Denico a double, and Turcotte and Howard a single each.
