Furman Exhibit At Miles Hospital
"Abandoned," oil, by Marcia Brandwein Furman, on display at Miles Memorial Hospital.

Local artist, Marcia Brandwein Furman is exhibiting her artworks at Miles Memorial Hospital now through Oct. 11.

Her collection includes oils, pastels and graphite. She has been coming to Maine for over 30 years and is now splitting her year between her home in Pemaquid Harbor and White Plains, N.Y.

Her paintings and drawings are vibrantly colored as she is inspired by the brilliant colors and patterns created by shadows and reflections.

She graduated from Pratt Institute as an illustrator which is apparent in her drawings. Her career was spent creating textiles for the home furnishing and hospitality trade. This had its limits as it was controlled by the requirements of printing and weaving.

Painting, with its freedom of expression was always a plan when the time was right. Her style is impressionistic and bold in execution. Working in plein air is challenging adding to the boldness of her style. She uses each painting as a learning curve for her next. There is a vitality to her style that continues to grow.

She is currently guest artist at Pemaquid Art Gallery. She has shown at Pemaquid Watershed Association and is exhibiting at River Arts, Boothbay and Maine Art Gallery.
