Now Playing At The Harbor Theatre

"Oz the Great & Powerful" concludes its run Thursday evening, then "Quartet" takes center stage this weekend at the Harbor Theatre.

"Oz the Great & Powerful" is a prequel to the story told in the classic 1939 MGM version. Inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics (James Franco), is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant, (albeit digitally enhanced) Land of Oz.

He thinks he has hit the jackpot - fame and fortune are his for the taking - until he meets three witches: Mila Kunis, Michele Williams and Rachel Weisz.

"Oz the Great & Powerful" PG, plays Thursday evening March 21 at 7 p.m.

Starting Friday, the long-awaited "Quartet" arrives. First-time director, Dustin Hoffman, takes an affectionate look at residents at a home for retired musicians, as they prepare to host to a new resident. Starring Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins.

"Quartet" PG13, plays Friday-Saturday, March 22, 23 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m.

The theatre will convert to digital projection on or before April 12. The conversion has been mandated by the industry as movie distributors phase out 35mm film later this year. The theatre currently shows films using two classic 35mm carbon-arc projectors.

Pre-show screen ads, theater memberships, and gift certificates support the theater's off-season operations. Members receive a $2 discount each time they visit the theater. Businesses sponsoring pre-show screen messages receive free membership and the ads are a tax-deductible business expense. These programs help to keep movies in the Boothbay region off-season.

For more information visit the theater's Facebook page, The Harbor Theatre, Boothbay Harbor, their website at http://www.harbortheatre.net or call the theater's 24-hour movie phone at 633-0438. The Harbor Theatre is located at the junction of Routes 27 and 96 in Boothbay Harbor, across from Hannaford market.
