Waldoboro Fire Department Celebrates 175th Anniversary
The Waldoboro Fire Department will mark their 175th anniversary with a three-day celebration Aug. 9 to 11. There will be an open house at the fire station all three days.
The department's first three fire engines will be on display, including the Water Witch, the Medomak and the Triumph, as well as current equipment. The department's display of fire department patches from around the United States will also be on display. There are no set hours on Friday (by chance), Saturday the fire station will be open from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
The Waldoboro Fire Department will be selling souvenir and commemorative items all weekend. Move Shaved Ice Stand will be selling over 70 flavors of shaved ice, with a portion of their sales going to the fire department. Total Victory Ice Cream and other vendors will also be available.

Friday, Aug. 9
Free admission to a carnival with Smokey's Greatest Show behind Miller School on Kaler's Street. Rides and food will be available at a cost.
A memorial service for firemen who have served the Waldoboro FD over the past 175 years will be held on a stage on Sukeforth Field at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex at 5:30 p.m.
Miss Water Witch Male Beauty Pageant at 6:30 p.m at Sukeforth Field, with a cash prize. WCSH's Don Carrigan will be master of ceremonies for the event. All contestants will be able to get free hair styling and make-up at Bad Hair Days. Contact Kathy at 832-6690 for make-up details.
The band Bad Penny will perform beginning at 8 p.m., at Sukeforth Field and is free to the public.
Saturday, Aug. 10
Saturday's events are kicked off by a 10K road race at 8 a.m. The race starts at the Lincoln County Fish and Game building on Cross Street. Registration starts at 7 a.m. at the Waldoboro Fire Station. Runners will be transported to the starting point. Pre-registration is $15, and day of race registration is $18. Prizes will be awarded.
A large parade is planned, beginning at 2 p.m. including Patriot Guard Riders, Firemen Fred, Rocky Bay Pipe Band, Kora Shriners Crazy Cops, American Legion Riders of Maine, Bagpiper Jeff Hebster, Anah Shrine Lobster Boat Unit, Maine humorist Gary Crocker, 2013 Sea Goddess, The Amazing Lou, Crusher of the Red Claws, Midcoast Community Band, Pirates of the Dark Rose, Chandler's Band, Meadow Creek Farm, Kora Karts, and more. The parade starts at the old Sylvania plant on Friendship Road and ends at the VFW Hall on Mills Street.
The Amazing Lou will perform his magic tricks from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex.
Wagon Rides with Belgian horses Bill & Ben from Meadow Creek Farm will be given from 3 to 8 p.m., at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex.
Jefferson Fire & Rescue will be serving their famous chicken BBQ starting at 4 p.m. The cost is $10.
At 4 p.m. The Bagpipes in History (Jeff Hebster) will perform live on stage at Sukeforth Field.
At 8 p.m., Motor Booty Affair (disco) free concert will be live from Sukeforth Field.
Sunday, August 11
2 p.m. - Rich Charette and the Bubble Gum Band in concert on stage at Sukeforth Field, followed by an autograph session. This free event is a fun afternoon of songs for the children.
4 p.m.- Fireman Fred and the Singing Firemen will perform in concert on stage at Sukeforth Field. Presque Isle native Fred Parsons will perform patriotic music. The concert is free.
3 to 7 p.m. - Stilt walker Rick Adam will entertain the crowd at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex.
4 to 8 p.m. - The Amazing Lou will return to perform his magic tricks at the Waldoboro Recreation Complex.
4 p.m. A pig roast, hosted by the Union Fire Department will start at 4 p.m.
7 p.m. - Emerald Sky concert (country and southern rock) will be performing live at the Sukeforth Field. This is a free event.
9 p.m. - The biggest display of fireworks in Waldoboro's history will kick off at dusk.
