Meet Governor LePage At Lincoln County Republican Pig Roast

The Lincoln County Republican Pig Roast to be held Aug. 24 at a lovely saltwater farm in Newcastle will be the perfect time to meet, shake hands and perhaps even have a few words with Governor Paul LePage.

In addition, attendees will enjoy great food, games for children and opportunity to meet new friends.

Born into a family of 18 children, Paul LePage, the oldest son, escaped a home environment of poverty and domestic violence at the age of 11. He began living on the streets of Lewiston, shining shoes, cleaning out horse stables and washing dishes.

Several local shop owners helped young LePage by hiring him for various tasks at their places of business. LePage went on to work for a rubber company and a meat-packing company.

With the supportive help of mentors, including U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe's first husband Peter, LePage graduated from Husson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Finance/Accounting. He later received an MBA from the University of Maine.

LePage proceeded to provide businesses, banks, bankruptcy courts, law firms and various companies with a broad range of financial services. His expertise was widely acknowledged. In 1996, LePage was hired as general manager of Marden's variety store in Waterville, where he grew the business to 15 stores throughout Maine.

LePage later went on to run for and win the Mayorship of Waterville. Finally, he ran for Governor in 2010 in a seven-way primary. His message of lower taxes, building a business-friendly environment in the state, improving education and healthcare for all the people of Maine and never forgetting the crucial lessons of his life won him the office.

The governor will be the guest of honor at the pig roast on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. at the home of Jim and Christiana Poole, 544 River Rd., Newcastle. The dinner will feature roast pork, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, and patriotic cake with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream. Dave and Chris Gagne of the Dani Tribesmen will provide the music.

There will be a silent auction, activities for the kids and a live auction for dinner with the governor. Tickets are still available at $15; children under 12, free, by calling 370-7058 or online at
