Doodle-ography workshops help students build on their innate creativity and learn to confidently express their own vision, through “focused doodling.”

Two fun, creative workshops will be offered in September in the Midcoast area. Doodle-ography workshops help students build on their innate creativity and learn to confidently express their own vision, through "focused doodling."

Participants will also experience firsthand how doodling can increase attention and have a calming, relaxing effect. Copies of the new Doodle-ography Journal will be available for sale at the workshops. Through visual and written prompts, the journal nurtures doodling as a spiritual practice and in the process becomes a beautiful, tangible record of the journey.

These workshops are especially designed for parents, educators, and religious educators. Participants will experience doodle-ography for themselves and also learn how to pass on what they learn to others. The workshops are led by Brady Nickerson, Edgecomb artist and art educator, and Lindy Gifford, creator of the Doodle-ography Journal.

Nickerson has led process art workshops for people of all ages and abilities for many years. Gifford has served as the director of religious education at the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for the past six years.

The first workshop will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. - noon at the First Universalist Church of Rockland at 345 Broadway. The second, hosted by the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, will be on Sunday, Sept. 29, 1 to 3 p.m. at Skidompha Library, 185 Main St., Damariscotta. The cost of each workshop is $25.

Both an interfaith and a Unitarian Universalist version of the Doodle-ography Journal will be available for $12 a piece. Free sample pages and pens will be provided for use during the workshops.

For more information and to register (or to order journals) visit http://www.doodle-ography.com or call Lindy Gifford at 563-1736.
