Seasonal Flu Shot Clinic

Today influenza activity is low in the United States and Maine, but is expected to increase in the coming weeks. Yearly vaccination is the first and most important step in protecting against flu.

Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, missed work, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths. If one has not gotten a flu vaccine yet this season, one should get one on Oct. 30 at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center located at 521 Main St., in Damariscotta.

The flu shot clinic will run 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A registered nurse from Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice, PenBay Healthcare will host a 2013 seasonal flu and influenza update, question and answer session at 1 p.m.

It is recommended that everyone get vaccinated against the flu annually.

The cost of the flu vaccine is $30. Standard Medicare Part B will be billed for people age 65 and older; Medicare HMOs and other insurance cannot be billed. For billing purposed seniors must bring their Medicare card to the clinic. Parents should bring their child's immunization record.

So that Kno-Wal-Lin will know how many seasonal flu vaccine doses to the Coastal Center's Oct. 30 flu shot clinic please call 563-1363, if planning to attend.
