One of the best parts of the holiday season is the Boothbay Railway Village's rides on its North Pole Express. This fun event has story telling, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.

On Saturdays, Nov. 30, Dec. 14 and 21, the Boothbay Railway Village will be running the "North Pole Express." Departures will be at 11, 11:45, 12:30, 1:15 and 2 o'clock each day.

Start the trip inside historic Freeport Station by writing a letter to Santa by warmth of the woodstove. Try some caroling while waiting for the train departure surrounded by holiday decorations including the uniquely decorated tree.

Train conductors will call 'all aboard' and everyone, young and old, will board the train to the North Pole. Settle into a comfortable seat in the steam-heated passenger car as one enjoys the winter wonderland of forest frosted with white snow (weather permitting, of course).

The train carries passengers through the village and arrive at the North Pole (Thorndike Station) where a special guest wearing a red suit with a jolly belly will greet everyone.

Yes, Santa himself will attend. Guests are treated to a special story book reading while hot chocolate and homemade cookies are served. Visitors will board the train and return to Freeport Station a little more excited for the holidays.

Tickets are available in advance through http://www.railwayvillage.org or at the door and are $10 for attendees ages three years and older. Museum members receive a $2 discount per ticket.

The Boothbay Railway Village is located at 586 Wiscasset Rd., Route 27 in Boothbay.
