The grounds of the historic Kavanagh House in Newcastle will be the site of a golden-age radio show and summer benefit gala for Spectrum Generations Coastal and Knox community centers at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The event will begin with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres and will feature readings from old-time radio shows, complete with special effects.

Cohen on the Meadows will cater a dinner buffet, which will feature chicken and beef tenderloin kabobs, grilled summer vegetable skewers, elegant salads, assorted dessert bars, and a complimentary glass of wine courtesy of Savage Oaks Winery in Union.

The food will be served under a tent. The event will move to St. Patrick's Church in the event of inclement weather. A Joe DiMaggio commemorative picture will be on the auction block.

Spectrum Generations invites the public to don their fancy summer frocks and dapper duds and attend an evening of entertainment, food, and laughter. Tickets are $60 per person, $100 for a pair, or $400 for a table of eight.

To purchase, call 563-1363 or email coastal@spectrumgenerations.org by Aug. 6. Spectrum Generations accepts cash, checks, and credit cards. $25 per person is tax-deductible. For more information, visit http://www.spectrumgenerations.org.

Parking will be at St. Patrick's Church. Shuttles will transport guests to and from the Kavanagh Mansion.

Proceeds benefit Spectrum Generations programs and services for older and disabled adults and their families in Knox and Lincoln counties. An anonymous donor will match the net proceeds.

The mission of Spectrum Generations is to promote lifelong learning, health, wellness, nutrition, community engagement, and social well-being for all older and disabled adults.
