New Harbor Woman Publishes Book
Goose River Press will publish
Goose River Press will publish "Voices from the Past: Oral Histories of a Maine Fishing Village" by Suzanne Collins, of New Harbor, on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Goose River Press is pleased to announce the publication of "Voices from the Past" by New Harbor resident Suzanne Collins. The official publication date is set for Aug. 12.

In "Voices from the Past: Oral Histories of a Maine Fishing Village," strong or faltering, the old people of New Harbor, Maine, poured out their stories while Collins recorded them. They are tales of horror and heroism, accomplishment and disappointment.

Though the "good old days" were not always so good, there remains a strong thread of community throughout. As these stories unfolded, Collins felt a strong connection to these old people, some of whom were related to her.

"As a native Mainer, I've sat at the feet of many old folks and heard their life stories," Collins said. "Some of those who lived and died on the sea were my relatives.

"As a member of the Old Bristol Historical Society, I've understood the value of recording these oral histories for the future. As a former editor, I've been able to write them down and share them with you."

"Voices of the Past" brings to life a time when humor and tragedy underscored the everyday existence of these seafaring people.
