Betty J. Boothe
Feb. 12, 1929 - March 26, 2013

Betty J. Boothe, 84, of Newcastle, died unexpectedly the morning of March 26 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

She was born Feb. 12, 1929 in Rockland, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Edna (Smith) Barton.

Although her family moved to Connecticut during the Depression to find work, she always longed to return to Maine, and was so happy to be able to move back several years ago. She loved this area and all of the people she met here and became friends with her friends at Franklin School Apartments, where she resided, held a special place in her heart.

Betty was a supporter of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter and liked to visit the cats there, when she was able. In her younger years, she was a skilled horse rider and still enjoyed reading stories about them and seeing them when on rides in the country. She loved all animals and took great joy in watching the birds, chipmunks and squirrels outside of her apartment windows. Betty was also an avid reader and enjoyed shopping, as well as spending time with her family.

Betty was a gentle and considerate woman, who touched many lives with her kindness.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of more than 48 years, Emery H. Boothe; and sister, Joan E. Zepfler.

Betty is survived by her brother, Robert Barton; niece, Carolyn Boyd and husband Kenneth; nephew, Lonnie Zepfler; great-niece, Diana Boyd; and great-nephews, Jason Boyd and Brian Barton.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of her family.

Should friends so desire, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
