Maurice L. Pickering
Aug. 6, 1944 - Feb. 22, 2014

Maurice L. Pickering, 69, of Wiscasset, died suddenly Feb. 22 at Maine Medical Center in Portland with his family by his side.

He was born in Castine on Aug. 6, 1944, a son of Lester W. and Ruby M. (Perkins) Pickering. He attended Bucksport and Wiscasset schools. On Oct. 6, 1961 he married Dorothy J. Grover. Maurice was a self-employed truck driver for many years. From 1991 until his retirement on Oct. 1, 2013, he was employed by the Town of Wiscasset.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working, and was proud to have built the homes of each of his children. Spending time with his family and grandchildren, going out to eat, and hanging out at Johnny's Auto were a just a few of his favorite past times. He will lovingly be remembered by all those who knew him for his dry humor and quick wit. There was never a dull moment when Maurice was around.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, David Pickering; and sister, Linda Barter.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy "Dot" Pickering; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lori Pickering; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Stanley Dalton, and Penny and Tom Niles; sister, Edith Cronk, all of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Kelsey and Zachary Pickering, Melissa and Heather Matthews, and Ben Masten; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Dalton, Cari Jewett, and Shawn and Darren Niles; and step-great grandchildren, Colin Dalton and Bristol Jewett.

A celebration of his life will be held 1-3 p.m., Sat., March 1 at the Alna Fire Department. All are invited to come and pay tribute to Maurice by sharing your memories and funny stories. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
