Shirley Louise Hodgkins Waltz
May 27, 1933 - June 11, 2014

Shirley Louise Hodgkins Waltz, 81, passed away June 11 with her family by her side. She was born May 27, 1933, the daughter of Ruth Marsh Hodgkins and George Waterman Hodgkins Sr.

She lived on West Neck with her brothers George Jr., Dallas, and Vance, along with her sisters, Rebecca and Nadia. She moved off the neck as a young girl and lived with Kay Oliver and did housekeeping.

In 1952 Shirley married the love of her life, Raymond S. Waltz, and they were married 61 years.

She worked at the Medomak Canning Factory as head cook helping to develop new canned soups and stews. She also worked at Sylvania in Waldoboro before going to work as a CNA at Miles for many years.

Shirley was one of the founding members of the Nobleboro Civic Club and helped raise money for the first playground at the then new Nobleboro Central School. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans, the Nobleboro Extension and a member of the Nobleboro First Baptist Church.

She was a Cub Scout leader and had a Brownie troop and was active in her children's grammar school sports, driving the team to games before they used school buses. She also cooked at the Nobleboro School until her children were old enough to walk to school and come home for lunch.

Shirley was predeceased by son, Peter Waltz; brothers, George Jr., and Vance; sister, Nadia; and parents, Ruth and George.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; sons, Stanley and wife Lynn, George and wife Vivian, and Warren and wife Susan; daughters, Daphne and husband Jack, and Rebecca and husband Ernie; grandsons, Tyler and Travis Waltz, Nathan and Samuel Clark, Cooper Waltz, and Raymond Mash; granddaughters, Jenny, Elisa, and Caitlin Waltz; three great-grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

There will be a private funeral service in Sheepscott per her request.
