Lots of Snow, No Major Damage as Blizzard Begins to Move Out
By Greg Latimer

Lincoln County seems to be weathering the current blizzard conditions with a minimum of damage. There were the usual minor vehicle accidents, along with school and business closures, but no major incidents have been reported at the time of this posting.

Presently there are 323 households without power, with a majority of these in Boothbay Harbor, according to Central Maine Power. In a rare circumstance, post offices are closed and mail delivery is suspended, according to the United States Postal Service.

Road conditions are still hazardous at the time of this posting, and many residents are staying indoors, according to reports.

The nearly empty roadways are a boon to snowplows, CMP crews, and first responders - allowing them to accomplish their missions without interference from unnecessary traffic.

The National Weather Service advises that a blizzard warning is still in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, and that residents can expect an additional 5 to 8 inches of snowfall and blustery winds before the storm moves out in the afternoon hours.

Forecasts indicate that snowfall and gusty winds should begin to taper off in the early afternoon.

Actual snowfall accumulation measurements for Lincoln County are still pending, with weather watchers facing challenges to accurately measure the snowfall due to blowing and drifting.

One Waldoboro resident described the snowfall as "waist deep" around his house. A measurement in Portland indicates 29.3 inches of accumulation - one of the highest snowfall totals in New England for this storm, according to weather.com.

The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
