The Damariscotta Police Department has recovered a 2005 Mercedes Benz SL500 stolen from a downtown Damariscotta building and continues to investigate the Sept. 20 theft.

The luxury car, which belongs to Dr. Joseph Griffin, was stolen Friday evening from outside Griffin's 60 Main St. dentist's office.

A citizen reported a suspicious car outside a vacant building at 65 Gardiner Rd. in Wiscasset, recently home to a Thai restaurant, at midday Sept. 22. The Wiscasset Police Department responded and identified the stolen vehicle.

Damariscotta Police Chief Ron Young and Officer Jason Warlick collected DNA and fingerprints from the car and sent the evidence to the Maine Crime Laboratory for processing. The officers are also reviewing video evidence from cameras in the area.

The department is also investigating a burglary and theft of prescription painkillers from the same office the evening of Sept. 16-17.

"We don't know right now if it's connected or not," Warlick said.

The burglar or burglars forced entry through a door and stole a hidden, locked box containing the drugs.

The Damariscotta Police Department asks anyone with information about the Sept. 16-17 burglary and theft or the Sept. 20 car theft to call the department at 563-1909.

Detective Scott Hayden of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the burglary investigation.
